Spence is a bright, contemporary family extension that opens the home to the outdoors and creates a relaxed, resort-like feel. With a sweeping covered deck, wide glass doors, and natural timber details, this project is all about easy living, entertaining, and making the most of the backyard space.
The initial concepts
The owners wanted a space that felt open, breezy, and built for entertaining — something that blended the warmth of natural materials with a clean, modern look. The brief was simple: create a seamless indoor–outdoor flow and bring more light into the rear of the home.
We introduced wide stacking doors, a large covered alfresco with a feature ceiling fan, and timber posts that bring warmth and character. The serving window into the kitchen adds functionality and makes hosting effortless. Throughout the process, communication stayed open and collaborative, ensuring every detail aligned with how the family wanted to live.
Key focuses during planning and design included:
- Creating strong indoor–outdoor connection to the pool
- Adding a generous alfresco space for year-round use
- Using timber accents to warm up the modern façade
- Improving natural light and ventilation throughout
